Purpose and horizon

Computing, assembled around intent. Radiolaria brings AI models, programs, services and devices into continuing application work. A task can change or outlive a particular answer, process or resource. Useful results can remain available while the affected work is reconsidered and recomputed.

The human purpose is to give attention more room for judgement and authorship. People should be able to bring what they know, imagine and care about to a capable assistant, and turn it into work they can examine and build on. Keeping context connected across tools should become part of the computing environment rather than a constant burden on the person.

This partnership preserves distinct contributions. A model can interpret and propose; a program can calculate; a source can provide material; an owner retains decisions within their scope. Capability ≠ authority. More available computation does not automatically confer more permission.

Reuse has three levels:

1. Within a task: retain an applicable result and selectively recompute the part affected by a change.
2. Between tasks: reuse a capability or qualified history after checking its applicability to the current purpose, conditions and policy. Previous acceptance does not carry previous permission forward.
3. Across organisations and devices: develop a proposed native ecosystem in which compatible capabilities can be published for many uses. This wider horizon still needs infrastructure, compatibility, integration and adoption.

The economic idea is shared capability development plus local data, policy and configuration, compatibility checks, execution and maintenance. It aims to reduce unnecessary repetition. It is not a benchmark of energy savings or a promise of zero future integration cost.

The Vision describes intention-centred composition and uses an imagined pizzeria to make it tangible. Work across devices and reusable capabilities across businesses remain proposed applications; the published reference provides bounded mechanisms and examples.

Real original calls include Gemini 2.5 Flash in Wedding semantic roles and two Rigetti Cepheus-1-108Q tasks through Amazon Braket. In separate Workspace EWS3R2, controlled roles accompany an actual stopped audio process. External HOW/WHAT authorship, independent owners, qualified reuse and bounded external exchange are also recorded. The event map below gives exact case and Reader routes before deeper reading.

Radiolaria is an architecture and application execution kernel/reference. The repository remains named hedgehog-os; the implementation is described as the RDL Kernel. “OS” concerns organising and executing application work, rather than a bootable replacement for Linux or macOS.

The present offer is reference v0.1, source code, contracts, recorded demonstrations, publication materials and a way to continue development. The GitHub Release is pinned to publication commit 800f38c3407b3f4ec93dc943c977ffeecb614881. The Zenodo record is the archive route. A later repository entry and the public handoff have their own dates and roles.

The accepted technical basis, publication snapshot, later main navigation, this website explanation and future proposals should remain distinct. Historical PENDING, INCOMPLETE and NOT_RUN statements retain their original scope. A later accepted result can complete a particular transition without rewriting an earlier attempt. Publication does not declare the entire broader Gate 6 roadmap complete.

The reference demonstrates finite relationships under stated source and trust assumptions. It does not establish safety for arbitrary hostile native code, universal planning, general crash recovery, global federation or production readiness for every domain. These limits should be applied to the claim being examined, alongside its positive result. Research provides the status map.

The relationships that make a system

Intent and Work. An intention becomes bounded typed computation with explicit input, sources, scope, budget and result. A semantic actor can propose structure; runtime owns and validates the materialised execution topology. A prose plan is different from performed Work.

Composition and consumption. Work can depend on other Work. Exact producer fields are bound to actual consumers. A parent can use both an unchanged retained result and a recomputed result. A name, reference or hash alone does not establish that the downstream computation used the material.

Time and continuation. Resources, Work, results and permissions have distinct lifetimes. Observation time, ingestion time, logical time and validity windows are different facts. New information can support new computation while an old action packet stays expired.

Memory and applicability. DRS provides source and memory discovery with provenance, lineage, scope, policy and time. Address, payload, right to read and permission to act are distinct. Historical material can remain intact while current use is refused. Qualified experience can change scrutiny or bounded work expenditure; this is not model-weight training or global reputation.

Independent owners. Root is the sole local final and commit role for an owner. Several Roots correspond to distinct owners, not levels of one hierarchy. Root is neither a mandatory human click for every internal operation nor an independent source of truth about all external facts. Local domain checks and their trust assumptions still matter.

Different computing participants. Models, typed programs, numerical solvers and QPUs can contribute in different roles. A solver proposes a candidate; a checker evaluates original conditions. Provider success or a valid signature does not establish semantic correctness. Actual model output has to be bound to what the application consumes.

Capability creation and admission. A new domain can be built from a general HOW and a task-specific WHAT. A candidate is examined, source admission is separate, and current action permission remains separate again. The human and assistant workflow is a practical method of development; the full integrated autonomous Needle Factory remains further work.

The nine directions and Incident Atlas below have a complete first explanation in each small offline Reader. They are distinct historical episodes, not one new execution.

• Workspace — An audio process stopped. The photo work survived. When the audio process stopped, visual work continued silently and the photograph result stayed intact. Only affected media work was recomputed; saving the chosen settings still required a separate decision. Focus Reader.

• Football — One permitted change made an impossible request workable. Allowing only the 8 January session to move by thirty minutes produced three training slots for EUR 63 under a EUR 70 limit. • Sentinel — Research questions became executable checks. A changed monitoring note selected a different investigation and actual native work. • Testflix — The terms changed. Renewal stayed a separate decision. A changed preference selected the plan that reached payment and playback. External authorship: An outside AI built Football from HOW and WHAT. gpt-6-astra was the external author; Gemini runtime proposals belong to a separate lane. Accepted G54D1 passed 16/16 native cases, with 56 events and seven isolated mock executions.

Growth and the common model: Growth, morphogenesis, child and nested Work distinguishes changed requirements, resource loss, retained/recomputed child results, discovery/admission of an existing pure capability, and writing new code. Choose the question before choosing the depth

Understand asks for the whole construction and its human purpose. Connect intent, Work, time, memory, computing participants, owners and capability creation. Explain one recorded example and name the material actually read.

Evaluate selects a specific claim. Inspect its primary sources, observed fields, assumptions and limits. Apply the same evidence standard to positive and negative conclusions. Missing inspection is not proof that a mechanism is absent; a stated limitation does not excuse a demonstrated violation inside the claimed scope.

Explore applies the organising principles to a new domain. Identify reusable mechanisms, domain rules, integration work and assumptions. Preserve the three levels of reuse. A new combination is a proposal until it has its own evidence, even if its parts appear in separate cases.

Distinguish accepted contract, recorded execution, independent checking within a declared trust scope, architectural inference and proposed future work. A document’s inclusion in the publication does not make every sentence a normative runtime rule.
